Knights struggle, but get win over L’view

The Crestview Lady Knights had to use a tough defense and good free throw shooting to get past the Lincolnview Lady Lancers 53-35 in a Northwest Conference game played Thursday at Lincolnview.

With the victory, the Knights are now 13-0 overall and 4-0 in the NWC, while Lincolnview is 9-6 overall and 2-3 in league play.

It wasn’t a great night offensively for Crestview, which made just 14 of 36 field goal attempts (38.9 percent), including 3 of 11 from three-point range (27.3 percent). The Lady Lancers also fared poorly from the field, canning 13 of 39 (33.3 percent), including 2 of 9 three-point attempts (22.2 percent).

Free throw shooting was the key for the Knights, who made 22 of 26 at the line (84.6 percent). Lincolnview made 7 of 10 free throw attempts (70 percent).

Crestview also had the edge in rebounding, 25-22, while the Knights also had fewer turnovers, 4-9, than Lincolnview.

Crestview led 12-4 at the end of the first quarter and the Knights were up by eight points, 18-10, at the half. Crestview outscored the Lancers 19-5 in the third quarter to lead by 22, 37-15, at the three-quarter mark, and then held off a Lincolnview rally in the fourth quarter to get the win.

The Knights had three players in double figures, led by Mackenzie Riggenbach’s 16 points. Paige Motycka added 14 points, while Emily Bauer scored 10 points for Crestview. Lindsey Motycka was nearly in double figures for the Knights, scoring 9 points in the contest.

Lincolnview was led in scoring by Ashton Bowersock’s 13 points, while Julie Thatcher added 12 points for the Lady Lancers.

The Knight junior varsity team also won, edging Lincolnview’s JVs 40-38.
