Lady Knights beat WT for 21st victory

CONVOY — The last time the Crestview Lady Knights lost a home game was February 5 … 2013. That game was against the Celina Bulldogs.
On Monday night, the Lady Knights took on the Wayne Trace Raiders and the outcome was the same it has been for the past 22 games, a victory for the home team. The Crestview man-to-man defense cranked up the intensity in the second half, holding the Raiders to 17 points.
Emily Bauer paced a balanced Lady Knight attack with14 points and 10 rebounds. Kennis Mercer added 11 points, while Paige Motycka and Terra Crowle each tallied 10 points.
Crestview took a five-point lead, 21-16, at the end of the first quarter, and was up by three points, 32-29, at the half. The Lady Knights then ratcheted up the defensive pressure to outscore Wayne Trace 18-8 in the third period to lead by 13 points, 50-37, heading into the final eight minutes.
Crestview shot well from the field, making 27 of 52 field goal attempts (51.9 percent), including 6 of 18 from three-point range (33.3 percent). The Knights were 3 of 6 from the free-throw line (50 percent).
The Lady Raiders were 17 of 46 from field goal range (37 percent), and made 4 of 10 three-point attempts (40 percent). Wayne Trace was 8 of 13 at the line (61.5 percent).
Crestview outrebounded the Raiders 29-20, while the Knights also had fewer turnovers (13-17).
Crestview moves to 21-0 on the year and look to earn their third straight outright Northwest Conference title this Thursday as they travel to Bluffton to take on the Lady Pirates.
Crestview’s junior varsity was also victorious, 55-21, to move to 14-4. Ally McCoy scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
