Third Ward Van Wert City Councilman Jerry Mazur is seeking the Republican nomination for city mayor on the May primary ballot.

Mazur, who has been a Van Wert resident for the past 15 years, served as manager of the Van Wert County Regional Airport from 2003-2005. During that time, he produced three successful air shows at the airport, and more recently produced two equally successful hot air balloon events, while also assisting the Van Wert County Fair Board with balloon events at the 2014 fair.
“These endeavors stimulated the economy of Van Wert by bringing in tens of thousands of people to the area, spending thousands of dollars at the event and in our hotels, gas stations and restaurants,” he said.
Mazur, who is now retired, formerly held responsible positions with both Otis Elevator Company and Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
“I have proven leadership skills and believe that applying a synergistic cooperative approach to issues is the most productive way to move forward,” Mazur noted.
Over the years, Mazur has been active in local government, serving as chairman of the Zone Board of Adjustments and was township constable in Tabernacle, New Jersey.
Mazur is also active in the community, with membership in the following organizations: Elks Lodge 1197 (past exalted leader), Knights of Columbus Council 6034, the Van Wert County Township Association, Van Wert County Republican Central Committee, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Unit 5803 and the National Rifle Association. He is also a member of the Wassenberg Art Center Board of Directors, the Peony Festival Committee and volunteers at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio.
