The Van Wert Rotary Club recently hosted its annual Four Way Test speech contest at the club’s regular February 24 meeting at Willow Bend Country Club. Students from area high schools were invited to learn about the Rotary Four Way Test and give a speech to the club about how they feel the moral code applies to their lives today or in the future.

The Rotary Four Way Test was adopted by Rotary International in the 1940s as a moral code for personal and business relationships, but the test can be applied to almost any aspect of life. The test reads, “Of the things we think, say, or do: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”

This year’s three entrants each spoke about applying the Four Way Test to specific decisions, actions or attitudes they see around them today.

Placing third in the contest was Micah German from Lincolnview High School, second place went to Courtney Trigg from Crestview High School, while first place was awarded to Joseph Linser of Van Wert High School.
