Delphos resident lives up to his name

DELPHOS — A Delphos man being arrested for felony domestic violence Saturday morning lived up to his name, giving police officers in that city a wild time before they were able to get him in jail.

Edward A. Wild, 26, of 234 N. Pierce St. in Delphos, was arrested when officers were called to the residence about 5:23 a.m. Saturday on a report of domestic violence. Police reported that records there showed Wild and the woman involved have a lengthy history of domestic-related problems over the past two years, including a previous conviction for Wild in 2009.

However, as officers were attempting to arrest Wild, he became combative, forcing police to use a Taser on him so they could handcuff him. Wild was then put in a cruiser for transport to Allen County (Ohio) Jail, but managed to work his arms in front of his body while handcuffed and then kicked out a rear door glass in the police cruiser. The transporting officer then stopped the cruiser along Ohio 309 and tried to regain control of the combative Wild.

With Wild trying to jump through the broken window, the officer used pepper spray on the man to keep him from escaping. However, Wild continued to be disruptive and refused police orders to stop resisting. When Wild again tried to lunge through the broken glass, he was again “Tased” to keep him from escaping. After the second Tasing, the transporting officer was able to re-secure Wild and transport him to jail.

In addition to the felony domestic violence charge, Wild was charged with felony vandalism for damaging the cruiser and resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor.

Delphos police also said several items of drug paraphernalia were found at the Wild residence after the man’s arrest, adding that additional charges of persistent disorderly conduct by intoxication, possession of drug paraphernalia and attempted escape could be filed after the case is reviewed by the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office today.
