Lancer track team at YM
The Lincolnview track team is finishing athletic training sessions with YMCA trainer Kory Hesseling and Wellness Director Julie Schaufelberger. The team benefited from a variety of high-intensity cardiovascular exercise and strength and core training as part of its pre-season conditioning. The focus was on leg strength so all runners could improve their times, while shot and discus throwers could improve distance. While working with individual athletes or with teams, YMCA trainers use techniques that assure athletes are well rounded in all aspects of fitness and this helps prevent injuries. Sessions can be general conditioning sessions or tailored to improve weak areas a team make have. Team training can also include specialized classes such as yoga, cycling or pool workouts. These workouts take stress off the joints of the athletes while still challenging them to improve cardiovascular levels, flexibility andĀ strength. (YMCA photo)
