Convoy man killed in 1-vehicle accident

PAYNE — The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred at 7:11 a.m. Saturday on Ohio 49 north of County Road 94, in Paulding County, one mile north of Payne.
A 2000 Toyota 4-Runner driven by Ismael Castillo Cano, 36, of Convoy, was southbound on Ohio 49 when the vehicle crossed the centerline and then drove off the left side of the roadway striking a utility pole and a ditch. The Toyota overturned several times prior to coming to rest in the field.
The vehicle sustained heavy disabling damage, Cano was transported by EMS squad to Parkview North Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by hospital medical personnel. His vehicle was towed from the scene by R & O Wrecker.
The Patrol was assisted on scene by Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, Payne Fire and EMS, and R & O Towing.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash and Cano was wearing his seat belt. The crash remains under investigation.
