One of America’s most fundamental rights in the right to vote. On Tuesday, May 5, the citizens of Van Wert have the opportunity to vote in the Republican primary to determine who will be on the ballot for the November elections. Current Van Wert At-Large City Councilman Jon Tomlinson is requesting city residents’ vote on May 5.

Tomlinson is a 1994 graduate of Van Wert High School, completed his bachelor’s degree (1998) and MBA (2004) from Wright State University, and earned a doctorate in organizational leadership from Regent University in 2012. Tomlinson and his wife, Diana, have two children, Taylor and Zachary, and attend LifeHouse Church in Van Wert.
For the past eight years, Tomlinson has been a professor of business and healthcare administration at the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima. As part of his City Council responsibilities, Tomlinson serves on the Water and Sewer, Parks and Recreation, and Judiciary and Annexation committees, as well as representing the city on the Van Wert County Regional Airport Authority.
“It is an exciting time in city of Van Wert,” Tomlinson said. “I feel Van Wert is at a significant precipice when it comes to economic development.
“Despite the so-so economic news on the national stage, Van Wert is poised to capitalize on the strengthening local economy through both the continued success of local employers and the opportunity to land a new employer with the now completely certified megasite,” he added. “I would like to continue to be part of the next generation of leaders in Van Wert to help propel our community forward into the future.”
When asked about his role as a member of City Council, Tomlinson noted: “It is important for all persons in leadership roles within Van Wert, City Council included, to be advocates for our community. Who else is better equipped to inform others of the positive features of Van Wert than those who have chosen to raise a family here and volunteered their time and effort to help make Van Wert better? It is easy to stand of the outside and criticize, much harder to become an active participant in Van Wert’s growth.”
Tomlinson also continued to request more involvement from Van Wert citizens in city affairs.
“All elected officials’ contact information is available on the city’s website, www.vanwert.org,” he said. “More input from voters is always welcome.”
In addition to voting on May 5 at the Van Wert County Council on Aging Senior Center on Fox Road, city residents may also vote early at the Van Wert County Board of Elections office, 120 E. Main St. in Van Wert.
