VWSWMD to have Earth Day open house

VW Solid Waste Management District information

The Van Wert County Recycling Center is sponsoring an Earth Day Open House on Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Recycling Center will give away 1,000 red and sugar maple seedlings for free, and will provide free hot dogs, refreshments and snacks for residents who tour the facility or drop off recyclable items. The center also has hundreds of donated books that are free to the public.

Household hazardous waste items like latex paint, used oil, passenger tires (up to four per household), e-waste such as electronic or computer devices, and old appliances may be dropped off free of charge.

Recycle Center employees will also load regular wood mulch for free.

“Most everybody has a few cans of old latex paint, an old computer or dysfunctional appliance in their basement or garage to get rid of,” said George Brake, director of Van Wert County’s Solid Waste Management District and the Recycling Center. “Our Earth Day Open House gives us a chance to help the community save a little money on safely disposing materials like latex paint, used oil, or tires, and learn more about how to recycle on a daily basis.”

The Recycling Center is located at 1135 N. Washington St.
