Free programs set at Children’s Garden
VW Parks Dept. information
The Van Wert Parks Department and Van Wert Master Gardner’s would like to announce that this summer it would be offering educational programs at the Smiley Park Children’s Garden. All programs are free, but those wanting to participate are asked to register by calling the Park Office at 419.238.9121.
Each session will be from 10-11:30 a.m. Sessions will include a story time lesson, a snack and a finished project to take home. The program schedules for this year are:
- June 11, “Sow and Grow” — Learn how to plant one’s own garden and what one needs to know to help it grow. Find out the importance of labeling, then have the opportunity to walk through the gardens and help identify flowers and plants.
- July 9, “Bottle Up” — Do you know what a green house is? This is a great opportunity to learn some basics of a greenhouse. Participants will build and plant their own pop bottle greenhouse.
- August 13, “Monarch Mysteries” — Hear about the mysterious life of a monarch butterfly and learn how they transform from a caterpillar to a flying butterfly. Each participant will even be able to take a caterpillar home to watch first-hand how they change. The day will end with a treasure hunt in the gardens.
