Young girl hit by car on Delphos street

Delphos Police Department information

DELPHOS — A 3-year-old girl is in stable condition Monday following a vehicle-pedestrian accident that occurred in Delphos on Friday evening.

According to Delphos Police Chief Kyle Fittro, the young girl chased a cat into the street and was hit by a northbound vehicle in the 1100 block of South Bredeick Street at approximately 5:28 p.m. Friday. The child sustained multiple injuries and was first taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, and was later life-flighted to Promedica Children’s Hospital in Toledo. According to Chief Fittro, it appears as if the young girl will survive.

Delphos police are working with the Van Wert County Children’s Service agency on the case, and, once the investigation is completed, information will be forwarded to the Van Wert County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if criminal charges are appropriate against the parents/legal guardians of the young girl.

Names of the girls’ parents have not been released, pending the filing of charges in the case.
