Pickle ball lessons offered in Smiley Park

VW Parks & Recreation Dept. information

Those looking for something new, exciting, and good for your health should look no further than the increasingly popular sport of pickle ball.

Pickle ball lessons and open play are being held at the Smiley Park tennis courts this summer.

Pickle ball is played on a badminton-sized court with special pickle ball paddles that are made of wood or high-tech aerospace materials. The ball used is similar to a Wiffleball, but slightly smaller. The lowered net and Wiffleball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

Van Wert Parks and Recreation Department has put together learning and open play sessions for pickle ball at the Smiley Park tennis courts. The beginner session is held on Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m. On Thursday evenings, an open play session will be held, starting at 6:30 in the evening, and beginners are encouraged to come and join.

All equipment will be supplied by the Van Wert Parks and Recreation Department. Coaches will be available to instruct beginners on Wednesday mornings to help learn the basics of the game.
