Man hurt in two-vehicle county crash
One person was reported injured in a two-car accident that occurred at the intersection of John Brown and Fife roads early Thursday afternoon.
The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, reported that a 1988 Chevrolet pickup truck operated by James Coombs, 66, of Convoy, was traveling north on John Brown Road when an eastbound 1984 Mack dump truck driven by George Sherwood, 65, of Tiffin pulled into the pickup’s path.
Coombs swerved to the right to avoid a collision, but was struck by the dump truck, sending the pickup into a stop sign on the northeast corner of the intersection. Coombs was pinned in the truck until being extricated by the Convoy Fire Department. He was taken to Van Wert County Hospital for treatment.
Sherwood was not injured, but was cited by troopers for failure to yield the right-of-way.
The Patrol was assisted by Convoy Fire & EMS and Brickner’s Ambulance Service.
