C’view board discusses physics program

CONVOY — The Crestview Local Board of Education met on Wednesday at its regularly scheduled meeting to discuss the middle school physics program and upcoming events on the calendar.
Elementary Principal Kathy Mollenkopf spoke to the board about the outstanding start to the school year in the elementary. Mollenkopf also noted that the testing and screening period has begun, with United Way collections also starting in the near future.

Middle School Principal Dave Bowen talked with the board about the middle school physics program “See the Change”. A professional development meeting will take place Thursday at Lincolnview to design the program that will be used while meeting the required standards.
High School Principal Mike Biro informed the board of a cross-curricular project that will use the language arts and Spanish students during lunchtime. Biro also told the board about Crestview’s recognition in Newsweek magazine titled “Beating the Odds 2015”, which listed the top high schools for low-income students. Crestview was listed in the top 200 in the nation, with a 98.8 percent poverty rate and a 100 percent graduation rate.
The board learned of the upcoming Convoy Community Days celebration, which starts September 26, during Superintendent Mike Estes’ report, and the board discussed several other event dates in the future.
Supplemental contracts were also approved by the board to Aaron George and Jordan Miller, both approved as halftime Model UN advisors for the 2015-2016 school year.
The board accepted, with thanks, a generous donation from Van Wert Federal Savings Bank of $5,000.
In other action, the board:
- Approved additional hours or days for the following departments: custodial, transportation, food service, secretarial staff, paraprofessional staff and certificated individuals.
- Approved a list of overnight trips and those exceeding 100 miles
