Dave Shupe

Dave Shupe, 75, of Van Wert, died at 4:29 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was born May 4, 1940, in Van Wert, the son of Raymon and Myrtle (Mohler) Shupe, who both preceded him in death. On April 8, 1966, he married Linda (Simon) Shupe, who survives him.

Also surviving are a son, John (Paula) Shupe of Lebanon; a daughter, Lisa (John) Saunier of Springboro; and five grandchildren, Derek, Drew, and Evan Saunier, and Felicity and Jonah Shupe.

Dave was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 178, both in Van Wert. He was a 1959 graduate of Van Wert High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963.

He was an avid fan of the Van Wert Cougars and Ohio State Buckeyes. Some of the things he enjoyed included spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing golf and traveling.

He was employed for 16 years at International Harvester in Fort Wayne and 23 years in the Van Wert City Schools maintenance department.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, October 16, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor William Haggis II officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City, with graveside military honors rendered by combined units of Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, October 15, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert.
