Palm Sunday service, Passover Seder activities

A “Living Stations of the Cross” prayer service took place on Palm Sunday at
the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic School. Students taking on the roles
parts of Jesus, Mary, Pontius Pilate and others enacted the 14 events
leading up to our Savior’s death and burial. Pictured is the scene where
Jesus is placed in the tomb, only to rise again on Easter Sunday.
Meditations and reflections helped the cast and those in attendance to pray
and to relate these events in our personal life.
As part of an Old Testament study the 6th grade class at St. Mary’s School

celebrated a Passover Seder. The Seder meal includes the bitter taste of
horseradish as well as the sweet taste of Haroset, an apple cinnamon
mixture. The meal included matzo crackers, matzo ball soup, boiled eggs,
parsley, and grape juice. Each food was blessed as the safe passage of the
Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land was retold.
St Marys kids visit Chicago

Is Chicago really the “Windy City? The 6th grade students from St. Mary of
the Assumption School would tell you that it’s not only windy but also rainy
and foggy. Rain didn’t dampen their spirits however. Eight students and
five adult chaperons traveled by train to Chicago recently for a 3-day
visit. They visited the Adler Planetarium, the Field Museum of Natural
History, Navy Pier, St. Michael’s Church in Old Town, the Chicago Art
Institute Museum. The group ate at the Rain Forest Café, the Rock and Roll
McDonald’s and at a Chicago-style pizzaria. Fog prevented the students from
going up Willus Tower and out on the observation deck. The extra time
was spent shopping and no one seemed to object. The group traveled to and
from Chicago on Amtrak from Waterloo, Indiana. Adult chaperons included
Mrs. Wolke, Mrs. Riethman, Fr. Mike and Mr. and Mrs. Mathew.
