AKRON — This past weekend at the University of Akron, former Parkway Local Schools band director Richard Sherrick was inducted into the Ohio Band Directors Conference Hall of Fame.

The Ohio Band Director’s Hall of Fame was established in 1974 as part of the Ohio Band Directors Conference, held annually at the University of Akron. The Hall of Fame inducts one retired Ohio high school or middle school band director in recognition of outstanding work in the field of instrumental music education.
To date, there have been 38 people inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame.
The Ohio Band Directors Conference photo gallery for the Hall of Fame is located in the Guzzetta Hall Atrium on the University of Akron.
Each year, the Ohio Band Directors Conference welcomes outstanding middle school and high school concert bands and band directors to campus for performances, workshops, and the Hall of Fame induction ceremony during the final OBDC High School Honor Band concert.
Sherrick was a Parkway instrumental music instructor from 1971 until his retirement in 2007.
In addition to his high school career, Sherrick currently is director of the Van Wert Area Community Concert Band, which presents concerts during the summer, including two concerts in Fountain Park each summer.
