Crestview outlasts Arlington for victory

CONVOY — The Crestview Knights got out to a quick start to give 2016 Winter Homecoming Queen Leslie Skelton and her court a 56-47 win over Arlington in a non-conference boys’ basketball game played Saturday in Ray Etzler Gymnasium.

Javin Etzler led the Knights with 21 points, including three treys, while Connor Lautzenheiser added 17 points for Crestview. Arlington’s Logan Spayer was the game’s top scorer with 23 points.

The Knights grabbed a 17-point lead, 23-6, in the first quarter, but lost nine of those points in the second quarter as Arlington outscored Crestview 17-8 to trail by 8, 31-23, at the half. Arlington continued to close the gap in the third quarter with an 11-7 run that brought the visitors to within four points, 38-34, heading into the final stanza.

But the Knights held on to outscore Arlington 18-13 in the fourth period to preserve the victory.

Crestview was 19 of 36 from the field (52.8 percent), including 6 of 13 (46 percent) from three-point range. The Knights made 12 of 18 (66.7 percent) at the free throw line.

The Crestview defense held Arlington to a 19-of-52 performance from the field (36.5 percent), which included making 3 of 19 three-point attempts (15.8 percent). Arlington was 6 of 8 (75 percent) from the line.

The Knights had one fewer rebound than Arlington (24-25), but had three more turnovers (10-7).
