C’view students show Christmas Caring

CONVOY — The Crestview Local Board of Education reorganized and held its regular January meeting Monday, while also recognizing students for their Christmas Caring projects.
John Auld was re-elected board president and Lonnie Nedderman was chosen vice president during the board’s organizational meeting. The board also set the date, time, and location for regular board meetings. The board will meet at 6 p.m. the third Thursday of each month in the district boardroom.

Students in grades 4-8 made presentations to the board on Monday about each of their group projects to give back to needy people. One fourth-grade group worked with Heifer International and raised approximately $1,500 for Bolivia. A second group of fourth-graders raised nearly $450 for Peru and also had the chance to visit a fiber mill.
The sixth grade groups went to Horizon Christian Academy in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and helped with kids in grades K-3. The Crestview students were able to make crafts, cookies, and also act in a Grinch skit with students at Horizon Christian Academy.
Seventh grade students at Crestview Middle School spent around $800 on gifts for needy families and then both wrapped and distributed the gifts to local families. Crestview eighth grade students were able to see how food was packaged and also paid a visit to “Our Daily Bread” to help in a soup kitchen.
The board also accepted, with thanks, a $1,226.29 donation for needy children from the Klein Trust of the Van Wert County Foundation and a $250 donation for needy elementary students from the Convoy United Methodist Church Women.
Crestview Superintendent Mike Estes honored individual board members with certificates as part of “School Board Recognition Month” and showed his appreciation for all they do, saying Crestview board members are “great people to work with; they care about these kids, care about this staff, and care about this district … and I appreciate all of their efforts.”
In other action, the board also:
- Renewed membership in the Ohio School Boards Association.
The next meeting of the Crestview Local Board of Education will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, February 18, in the district boardroom.
