Joan Schlatter
Joan Schlatter, 91, of Van Wert, peacefully passed away at 10:37 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016, surrounded by her family, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born October 18, 1924, in Van Wert, the daughter of Orley W. and Jennie M. (Baker) Putman, who both preceded her in death. On December 7, 1946, she married Fred Lee Schlatter, who preceded her in death August 7, 1968.
She ended her nursing career in 1997 after 52 years. She had worked at Van Wert County Hospital for Dr. Underwood, and served as director of nursing at Vancrest Health Care Center and Van Wert Manor, both in Van Wert. She ended her career working as a private duty nurse with hospice patients.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert. She previously served on the Cerebral Palsy Board, was a member of Elks Lodge 1197 in Van Wert and the Van Wert Nurses Association. She was a 1942 graduate of Van Wert High School and a 1945 graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Through the years, in her spare time, Joan loved to bowl, golf, knit, complete word search puzzles, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Family survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jim Stanley of Van Wert; a grandson, Todd (Diane) Daniels of Toledo; one great-granddaughter, Madison Daniels; and several nephews and nieces: Bill (Marcy) Wellman of Celina, Barb (Bud) Reed of Van Wert, and Cheryl (Tom) Compton of Cincinnati.
Her twin sisters, Sarah Rebecca “Becky” Agler and Betty Wellman, both preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, officiated by the Rev. Paul W. Miller. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at the funeral home.
