PAULDING COUNTY — The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible homicide after a woman’s body was found at a deserted residence on the Ohio-Indiana state line.

Deputies were called to 10488 Road 1, between Antwerp and Payne, about 10:38 a.m. Monday after construction workers arrived to tear down a garage and found a woman’s body lying in the grass.

“The body is a middle-aged female and she did not have any identification on her,” said Paulding County Sheriff Jason K. Landers. “Agents with the Attorney General’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit were on scene to assist my staff with processing potential evidence, as well as making identification of the deceased.”

Sheriff Landers said he also contacted law enforcement partners from Allen County, Indiana, since his office did not have any reports of missing women, to see whether a description of the body matched missing persons reports they had taken.

The sheriff said more information will be released once the woman is identified and next of kin notified.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene, in addition to the Bureau of Identification and Investigation’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County (Indiana) Sheriff’s Department, Woodbury (Indiana) Police Department and Paulding County Coroner Dr. Joseph Kuhn.
