Leadership Class raising $$ for city flags

The 2016 Van Wert Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class has selected Main Street Van Wert to benefit from its fundraising efforts.

The Leadership Class will be selling raffle tickets to community members and interested businesses until Thursday, April 21. Proceeds will go to Main Street Van Wert to aid in the purchasing of new American flags and flagpoles for Van Wert’s downtown area.

Over the past several years, the flags on Main Street must be refitted due to tangling during the summer season. Refitting was done by the Van Wert City Engineering Department. In the latter part of last summer, a demo flag was installed, and, for the approximately six weeks the demo flag was up, it never tangled nor had any other problems.

The Leadership Class views downtown Van Wert as a critical area for business development and community pride. The new flags and flagpoles will line Washington and Main streets. If possible, the Main Street Van Wert Board of Directors would also like to purchase flags and flagpoles for Central Avenue.

Raffle tickets cost $10 each, and three winners will be drawn on Friday, April 22, by Main Street Program Manager Adam Ries. The first-place winner will receive $1,000, while second place will receive $400, and third place will receive $100.
