Paul B. ‘Bounce’ Pohlman

Paul B. “Bounce” Pohlman, 90, died at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, at his residence.

He was born July 9, 1925, the son of Aloysius and Theresa (Spieles) Pohlman, who both preceded him in death. On April 7, 1948, he married the former Margaret Kaverman, who died October 8, 2013.

American Flag for obituaries 6-2011Mr. Pohlman was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos, where he served as an usher and member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was a graduate of Delphos St. John’s High School and was a World War II veteran, serving in the Philippines and Japan. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, was a retired director and agent for The German Mutual Insurance Company, and served on the board of directors of The Equity Elevator.

He had an unwavering faith, a deep love for his family, and felt blessed to spend his life as a farmer, and in his retirement enjoyed his other passion: woodworking.

Survivors include three sons, Michael (Helen) Pohlman of Spencerville, and Charles (Janice) Pohlman and Paul A. (Donna) Pohlman, both of Delphos; three daughters, Susan (Steve) Sherburne and Mary Pohlman, both of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Lois (Jim) Hoersten of Ottoville; a sister, LaDonna Peterson of Delphos; 23 grandchildren, Matt (Cheri), Nick (Melaine), and Craig (Sheila) Pohlman, Emily (Keith) Fagnant, Br. Eric, Brian (Nicole), and Jeff Pohlman, Trina (Logan) Gross, Jennifer (Craig) Eckert, Diana (Matt) Delaney, Kathleen (Johnathan) Grismore, Denise (Dustin) Sewelin, Erin (Travis) Heckber, Angela Sherburne, Kevin (Kristin), Amy, Kyle, and Kara Hoersten, Lori (Ryan) Miller, Joel, Chris, Kelsey, and Maddie Pohlman; 25 great-grandchildren; and in-laws Ruth C. Pohlman, Dolly Pohlman, Norm Knippen, Dorothy Heitz, Eugene Kaverman, Louis and Martha Kaverman, Alene Klausing, Janet and Tom Hiett, and Ed Utrup.

Three brothers, Ray, Jerome, and Harold Pohlman; and four sisters, Helen Dickman, Marie Berres, Marciel Etzkorn, and Ruth J. Pohlman, also preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Delphos, with graveside military honors rendered by the Delphos Veterans Council.

Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 4, and 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, where a Knights of Columbus rosary service will be held at 7 and a parish wake at 7:30 that evening.

Preferred memorials: St. John Parish Foundation or St. Vincent de Paul Society.
