R.K. Thompson Award boy finalists named

Five area boys have been selected for the 2016 R.K. Thompson Self Reliance Award, according to Breanne Sudduth and Anthony Adams, co-chairs of the Van Wert Service Club’s selection committee. The awards banquet is to be held on Tuesday, April 19.

The program provides cash awards to Van Wert County high school seniors who best exhibit the trait of self-reliance. The awards are designed to seek out and honor the student who does the best with what he or he has.
This year’s boys finalists include Kaleb Cantrell, son of Jill Cantrell; Josh Leiter, son of Jeremy Leiter and Joette Coon; Christian Lintermoot, son of Brand Lintermoot and Shawna Hahn; Isaiah Oliver, son of Karl and Stacey Oliver; and Ryan Stoller, son of Tom and Lori Stoller.
Cantrell is a senior at Van Wert High School where he is the Student Council treasurer, president of National Honor Society, and captain of the football and wrestling teams. He is also involved in Beta Club, Service Pack, Concert Choir, Select Choir, and a Renaissance Gold Card holder.
After graduation, he will attend the University of Cincinnati and pursue a degree in biomedical engineering. He is currently employed at Willow Bend Country Club.
Leiter is a senior at Lincolnview High School, where he is a member of the state runner-up basketball team, in addition to his involvement with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
After graduation, he plans on the University of Northwest Ohio pursuing a degree in sports management and marketing. He is currently employed at Dairy Queen.
Lintermoot is a senior at Vantage Career Center. In addition to attending high school, he is involved with his church youth ministry as a cabin leader.
After graduation, he plans to attend Baker College in Michigan. Christian is currently employed at Little Caesar’s Pizza, where he has earned the position of manager.
Oliver is a senior at Crestview High School where he is involved in Art Club and track and field team. After graduation, he plans to attend Hocking College in Athens majoring in police science, with the goal of pursuing a career in law enforcement. He is currently employed at Arby’s.
Stoller is a senior at Van Wert High School where he is the Student Body president and captain of the football seam. He is also involved in the Concert and Select choirs, Beta Club, varsity baseball team, National Honor Society, various charitable endeavors, and is a Gold Renaissance Card holder. Ryan attends LifeHouse Church where he is involved in the youth ministry, leading a small group of third grade boys.
After graduation, he plans to pursue a degree in either the medical, law or education field, with an emphasis on serving others.
