Motorcyclist killed in Defiance area crash

DEFIANCE — The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Watson and Fullmer roads in Highland Township, Defiance County at 4:43 p.m. Tuesday. The crash involved a pickup truck pulling a trailer and a motorcycle.

osplogoA 2013 GMC 3500 HD pickup, driven by Phillip J. Wagner, 58, of Defiance, was traveling east on Watson Road, while a 1984 Honda VF 700 motorcycle, driven by Joshua Zimmer, 34, of Defiance, was heading west on Watson Road. The GMC pickup turned left onto Fullmer Road, and was struck by the motorcycle. The pickup continued off the right side of Fullmer Road, while the motorcycle came to rest on the roadway.

Wagner, who was wearing his seatbelt, was transported to Defiance Regional Hospital by Highland Township EMS. Zimmer, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Patrol was assisted by the Defiance County Coroner’s Office, Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, Highland Northwest Township Fire Department and Defiance EMS.

The crash remains under investigation.
