VWMS track teams league champions

LIMA — The Van Wert Middle School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams participated in the 2011 Lima Shawnee Invitational Western Buckeye League meet Friday night. Through tough weather conditions and strong competition the Cougars had a historical night!

In the first time in school history the Cougar boys and girls were both Western Buckeye League champs. There were many personal bests throughout the meet for the Cougars. It was a great team effort, with first level and second level scoring to put the Cougars on top.

Also, there were two individual awards for the meet labeled “Athlete of the Meet” for the top boy and girl. Van Wert took home both of those awards, with Nick Krugh winning the boys side and Alexis Dowdy winning the girls. Dowdy broke the 1993 shotput record of 34 feet, 10 inches, with a winning toss of a 35 feet, 10 inches.

The Cougar track team is having a very successful year and is  finishing on a strong note. The Cougars will travel to Celina Thursday and participate in the Celina Ayers Spectacular to finish off the season.
