WBESC board learns about legal seminar

The Western Buckeye Educational Service Center Governing Board handled a number of personnel issues during its May meeting this week at the Van Wert ESC office. Superintendent Brian Gerber also talked about an upcoming legal seminar WBESC is sponsoring for school administrators in Van Wert, Paulding, and Allen counties.
Gerber noted that the seminar, titled “Educational Hot Topics Legal Seminar,” would be held from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio, with Van Wert Superintendent Ken Amstutz hosting the session.
Attorneys from Columbus law firm Scott Scriven LLP will be conducting the seminar.
In personnel action, the WBESC board accepted the following personnel resignations: Rachel Rager, effective the end of the current school year; Kristina Figgins from part-time status, but add to the substitute list; Patricia Miller resigned, due to retirement, effective June 30, and was then employed as a secretary-receptionist on a 182-day limited one-year contract, effective July 1; Nancy Ruhe resigned, for the purpose of retirement, effective August 31, and was then employed as a school psychologist with a one-year limited contract.
The board also approved extended school year summer services supplemental contracts for the following personnel: Angie Bonifas, occupational therapy services; Heather Matthews, physical therapy aide services; Nichole Jefferson, occupational therapy aide services; Kate Wenninger and Julie Baldwin McGrath, speech therapy services; and Jenna Sherry, physical therapy services.
The board also approved a one-year limited, part-time contract for Robert Miller as a truancy officer for the 2016-17 school year, and accepted, with thanks, a donation of $100 from Beta Delta Chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority of Van Wert.
The next meeting of the Western Buckeye Educational Service Center Governing Board will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at the Paulding ESC office.
