Bridge done, another to close

A bridge on Dutch John Road (above) in Union Township, just south of Dixon Cavett Road, is open to traffic, according to Van Wert County Engineer Kyle J. Wendel. The county bridge crew replaced a deteriorated steel beam superstructure with county manufactured reinforced concrete beams. A reinforced concrete composite deck was also added for additional strength. The existing abutments were re-used for the project. Shelly Company of Findlay performed approach paving. County crews will now be closing and replacing a structure on John Yoh Road, just south of the Convoy road intersection in Hoaglin Township, on Monday, May 16 (existing bridge shown below). Duration of the project will be around six weeks, depending on weather conditions. The existing steel beam structure will be entirely rebuilt from the ground up with reinforced abutments, as well as reinforced concrete beams made by the county.
