Cloyd Perry Waltz

Cloyd Perry Waltz passed away peacefully at 5:15 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2016, at Hearth & Home in Van Wert.

He was born February 15, 1925, in Van Wert County, the son of Perry and Hazel (Haver) Waltz, who both preceded him in death. On March 6, 1948, he married Jean Georgene (Mattson) Waltz, who survives at the residence.

Also surviving are their children, Betsy Mott of Grabill, Indiana, Timothy (Lori) Waltz of Van Wert, Jody (Bradley) Lichtenberger of Spencerville, Indiana, and Carey (Deborah) Waltz of Van Wert; seven great-grandchildren, Abraham (Kari) Wallis of Ossian, Indiana, Amber Waltz of Boston, Massachusetts, Darby (Eric) Schwieterman of Rockford, Benjamin Waltz of West Lafayette, Indiana, Hayley Waltz of Columbus, Emily Lichtenberger of Cookeville, Tennessee, and Mikhaila Lichtenberger of Spencerville, Indiana; five great-grandchildren, Luke and Owen Wallis, Perry and Isaiah Schwieterman, and Ashley Bunker; many nieces and nephews; and a brother, Bernard Waltz of Van Wert.

A son-in-law, David Mott; two sisters, Ursula Chapman and Eloise Ross; two brothers-in-law, Frank Chapman and Joe Ross; one brother, Carlos Waltz; a nephew, Eric Ross; a sister-in-law, Velma Waltz; a niece and two great-nieces.

Cloyd helped his father farm and achieved the FFA American Farmer Award after graduating from Van Wert High School in 1943. He also received the award for “Outstanding Young Farmer” in 1958 from the Van Wert Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees).

He was a retired dairy and grain farmer. After retirement, he was a truck driver for Haviland Drainage Company for 16 years. He was a lifetime member of Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church, serving in various leadership positions. He was a member of the Van Wert County Farm Bureau, Van Wert County Holstein Association, Holstein Association USA Inc., Percheron Horse Association of America, Belgian Draft Horse Corporation of America, and Ohio Farmers Union, and served on the Pleasant Township Zoning Committee.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, at Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Van Wert County, with the Rev. Ron Lumm officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Visitation is from 2-7 p.m. Monday, September 5, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, and an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
