Camera Club holds monthly competition
By Rex Dolby
The Wassenberg Camera Club met Thursday, May 12, at the Wassenberg Art Center to see who had the best Flag picture. Taking first place was Shirley

Hollis’s dramatic picture of the large flag at the Bud’s dealership at St. Marys. Granddaughter Lillie Hollis won 2nd place with her picture of the U.S. and Ohio flags at the fish hatchery on the east bank of Grand Lake St. Marys.
Rex Dolby won the slide division with a picture of flags at the top of the aircraft carrier Midway, which is permanently docked in San Diego as a museum. Commissioned in Sept. of ’45, the ship is 1001′-6″ long, 258′ at its widest, and 222′-3″ tall. The area of the flight deck covers 4.2 acres. It is located right along the water front in downtown San Diego.
Doug Heckler did a fine job of filling in for President Jodi Hattery. Doug reported on the recommendations that the club was asked to supply the Wassenberg board concerning the October Photography Exhibit. A

statement was made about encouraging young people to submit to this show, that the miscellaneous category would be dropped, that entry fees would be $35 for non members, $25 for members, and $15 for those under the age of 18. Gallery/canvas wrapped pictures meeting size and hanging requirements will also be accepted.
Jan Sorensen asked when would be an appropriate time to wear the club’s t-shirt. Some of the suggestions she received were that the shirt might be worn any time a member was working at the fair or Art Center hosting a show, receiving or returning pictures, representing the club, or on a club shoot.

Doug showed a possible logo for the club. It took nearly 2 years to decide on the one we have. Some felt it may be too early to approve a new design and others felt that the Camera Club part seemed secondary in the design. The question was raised whether a Camera Club ID card could be created so that if we were out on a shoot, it might be more likely that we might be granted permission to shoot.
The club will next meet on Thursday, May 26, at 7 p.m. at the Wassenberg Art Center, 643 S. Washington St., Van Wert, Ohio 45891.
