Local Elks give out annual scholarships

Van Wert Lodge 1197, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, has announced the awarding of a $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year for four years) by the Elks National Foundation to Dulton M. Moore.  The Elks National Foundation offers the “Most Valuable Student” scholarships for high school seniors entering college in the fall.

Moore will be graduating this spring from Delphos Jefferson High School and will be entering Ball State University and majoring in actuarial science.

During high school, Moore was a member of the Delphos FFA chapter, National Honor Society, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, Scholastic Bowl, was a class officer, was on the Van Wert Marlins swim team and was a Junior Optimist.

Moore attends Trinity United Methodist Church in Delphos, where he is active in the youth group. He is a volunteer at the Delphos Interfaith Thrift Shop, as well as lifeguard and water safety instructor at the YMCA. He is employed at the Creamery in Delphos and is owner and operator of his own wood-service business.

Moore resides at 8005 Baker Road in Middle Point and is the son of Steve and Lesley Moore.

Moore, along with his parents, was recognized during the Van Wert Lodge Youth Recognition Breakfast held May 3, and the Moores will be the guests of the Ohio Elks Association at its Youth Day Luncheon, which will be held in Dublin on August 20.

Van Wert Elks Lodge 1197 also announces the awarding a $1,000 scholarship by the Elks National Foundation to Ryan M. Todd. The Elks National Foundation offers the “Most Valuable Student” scholarships for high school seniors entering college in the fall. Todd will be graduating this spring from Van Wert High School and will be entering Eastern University this fall majoring in aviation flight technology.

During high school, Todd was a member of Student Council, Scholastic Bowl, Beta Club, National Honor Society and Spanish Club. In addition, he was a Buckeye Boys State delegate, Renaissance gold cardholder, a scholar-athlete and was on the 4.0 honor roll for four years.

Outside of school he is involved as a Bread & Bowl volunteer, Habitat for Humanity volunteer, is a member of the Civil Air Patrol and is a licensed ham radio operator.

The VWHS senior is a member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Van Wert, where he is active in the youth group and is a Vacation Bible School volunteer.

Todd works at Taco Bell as a shift manager and owns and operates his own business, Airplane Wash ‘N’ Wax.

He resides at 1019 Cadillac Drive in Van Wert and is the son of Michael and Lorali Todd.

Todd, along with his parents, was recognized during the Van Wert Elks Lodge Youth Recognition Breakfast held May 3 and will be the guests of the Ohio Elks Association at its Youth Day Luncheon in Dublin on August 20.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is second only to the United State government in the number of scholarships awarded each year. Van Wert Lodge is proud to have been a sponsor for both area seniors during this competition.
