Deadline set for Homestead Exemption

The deadline for filing for a Homestead Exemption is Monday, June 6. The exemption provides a real estate reduction for people age 65 or older or those disabled. Those receiving the exemption must own and occupy their home as a principal place of residence as of January 1 of the year for which they are applying. A life estate is a qualified ownership.

Applications can be made for Van Wert County residence through the County Auditor’s Office, Room 203 in the Court House. Contact number is 419.238.0843.

Those who have already applied and have no changes in ownership do not need to reapply.
