Camera Club views storm pix, more

Wassenberg Camera Club members met Thursday, May 26, at the Wassenberg Art Center in Van Wert to view recent pictures taken at the Sorensen Photo Shoot, as well as other pictures of interest.

President Jodi Hattery showed a series of totally believable storm photos that included a tornado over a field, and two lightning strikes.  One of the strikes appeared to hit the tower on top of the hospital. Viewers were very impressed with her luck and skill in capturing the scenes. She then confided that they had been created with a Corel photo-editing program. I guess it just confirms the saying that given the right tools, a craftsman can produce some noteworthy results. They all were very realistic.

Vice President Doug Heckler showed pictures from the Sorensen Shoot.  What really caught the group’s attention however, was a series of images taken of a hawk that frequently visits his back yard.  The picture that received the most reaction was one of a black squirrel in a small tree taunting the hawk from just a few feet away.

Secretary Rex Dolby also shared pictures taken at the Sorensen Shoot.  His images from a recent visit to Holden Beach, N.C., included a flight of pelicans, a shrimp boat working near the beach house and two views of a full moon over the ocean.  One showed the moon glistening on the ocean and the other was a close-up of the moon.  Using just his camera, he captured enough detail in that you could easily see where a huge meteor had impacted near the lower pole of the moon.

Virginia Thatcher brought two prints for the group to view.  One was a winter scene with a cardinal perched in a bush in the foreground and the other was an impressive, huge basket of bright red petunias.

The club will next meet Thursday, June 9, at 7 p.m. at the Wassenberg Art Center.  Sunsets will be the competition theme that evening.
