Clair Wilbur Weeder

Clair Wilbur Weeder, 97, of Van Wert, died at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born July 3, 1913, in Hillsdale County, Mich., the son of the late Wilbur and Ruby Allen (Apt) Weeder. On March 5, 1938, he married Anita Mae (Metzger) Weeder, who survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Weeder owned and operated Triangle Super Value Store in Van Wert from 1961 until he retired in 1976. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Van Wert, where he had been active as adult Sunday School teacher and with Caregivers. He was a life member of the Van Wert Men’s Garden Club (now Gardeners of Van Wert County), a life member of Van Wert Sertoma Club, and enjoyed traveling, camping and gardening.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon L. Blank of Van Wert, Marilyn A. (William) Morgan of Venedocia and Debra J. (Robert) Keppel of Tipp City; five grandchildren, Brian Blank, Anne (David) Harting, Jennifer (Brent) Wright, Kathleen Keppel and Colleen (Brandon) Flayler; and three great-grandchildren, Ragen, Jaret and McKenzie Harting.

A brother, George W. Weeder; and two sisters, Marion Rice and Eilene Metzger, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Van Wert, with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Schibler officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
