YM hosting rock bridges presentation

The YMCA of Van Wert County’s Camp Clay Nature Committee will be hosting a presentation on “Rock Bridges of Ohio,” with presenter and author, Timothy A. Snyder. This will be held at the Camp Clay Nature Center (Liberty Union Road) on Sunday, June 26, 2-3:30 p.m.

Snyder, a native of Findlay, earned a bachelor’s degree in biology education from Evangel College in Springfield, Mo., and a master’s degree in recreation resources and interpretive services from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo.

He joined the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in 1980 as a park ranger at Geneva State Park.  In 1982 he accepted a position as West-Central Ohio District manager with the Division of Natural Areas and Preserves. Based at Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve, he was responsible for the operation and maintenance of several state nature preserves and scenic river areas including alkaline wetlands, old-growth forests and prairie remnants. He also served as the Division’s burn boss, overseeing controlled burns — an activity that led to his participation in the Ohio Interagency Fire Crew and a number of fire fighting assignments in the American West.

He retired in 2005, but continues to work with Ohio’s natural resources. His book, Rainbows of Rock, Tables of Stone: The Natural Arches and Pillars of Ohio, is the result of 25 years of research in every corner of the state.
