William E. Spoor III

William E. “Bill” Spoor III, 63, of Van Wert, died Saturday evening, December 16, 2017, at home.

He was born April 27, 1954, the son of William E. Spoor II and Charlene (Sinning) Spoor, who both preceded him in death. He was married to Christina A. (Jenkins) Spoor for nearly 40 years and she died May 14, 2012.

Bill is survived by two sons, William E. “Lump” Spoor IV and Jerry Spoor, both of Van Wert; a daughter, Trisha (David) Rager of Fort Wayne, Indiana; five grandchildren, Laine, Grace, and Emma Spoor and Trinity and Will Rager; three sisters, Deb (Mike) Baxter, Brenda (Darren) Watkins, and Linda Spoor, all of Van Wert; a brother, Rick Spoor of Van Wert; several nephews and nieces; and his dear friend, Faye Ann Nihiser of Van Wert.

Two brothers-in-law, Rick and Greg Jenkins, also preceded him in death.

Bill retired in 2016 after 47 years as owner-operator of Spoor Contracting of Van Wert. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Chapter 178 in Van Wert.

Bill was devoted to his kids, grandkids, drag racing, gambling, and cigars. Muncie Dragway, Firekeeper Casino, and Hoosier Park Casino were his homes away from home and will never be the same without his friendly demeanor and carefree attitude, but as Bill would always say, “what a deal”.

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, December 21, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert. Burial will take place at a later date in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Visitation is from 2-6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials may be directed to the William E. Spoor Memorial Fund.
