Girls hoops recap: VW, L’view, C’view fall

Thursday night was a rough one for girls’ basketball teams from Van Wert, Lincolnview and Crestview. Below are brief recaps from each of their games.

Ottawa-Glandorf 68 Van Wert 43

The Lady Titans (12-1, 4-0 WBL, No. 3 in Division III) defeated the Lady Cougars 68-43 at Van Wert High School on Thursday.

Ottawa–Glandorf led 15-8 after one quarter and 38-22 at halftime. The lead was extended to 48-27 after three quarters of play.

Alexis Metz hit four treys and finished with 12 points for Van Wert, while Reagan Priest finished with nine.

The Lady Titans had 10 players score and were led by Ashley Schroeder and Kadie Hempfling, who each finished with 14 points.

Van Wert (2-10, 0-4 WBL) is scheduled to host Lincolnview on Saturday.

Bluffton 45 Lincolnview 37

Conference-leading Bluffton topped the visiting Lady Lancers 45-37 on Thursday.

The third quarter was the difference, as the Lady Pirates (10-3, 4-0 NWC) outscored Lincolnview 9-2 and led by 10 at the end of the period. The Lady Lancers were able to trim the deficit to four in the final period, but could get no closer.

Lakin Brant and Kayla Schimmoeller each scored 10 points for Lincolnview (5-7, 0-3 NWC).

The Lady Lancers will play at Van Wert on Saturday.

Delphos Jefferson 52 Lincolnview 49

The Lady Wildcats rallied from a seven point halftime deficit, then used late free throws to defeat Crestview 52-49 on Thursday.

The Lady Knights (6-5, 2-2 NWC) jumped out to a 14-7 first quarter lead, then enjoyed a 28-21 advantage at halftime. Delphos Jefferson (10-3, 3-0 NWC) outscored Crestview 11-6 in the third quarter and trailed by just two, 34-32, entering the final period.

Sarah Miller hit a foul shot with less than 20 seconds left to break a 49-49 tie, then Macy Wallace hit two more with 1.6 seconds left to secure the victory.

Delphos Jefferson’s Alli McClung led all scorers with 12 points, while Crestview’s Lexi Gregory finished with 11.

Crestview will travel to Coldwater on Tuesday.
