Anne R. Wells

Anne R. Wells, 80, passed away Wednesday evening, January 31, 2018, at her residence in Van Wert.

She was born September 4, 1937, in Toledo, the daughter of Dorcie and Ruth (Huenefeld) Turner, who both preceded her in death. On December 1, 1956, she married John Russell Wells, who died December 22, 2001.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Showalter of Van Wert; two grandchildren, Benjamin (Ashley) Showalter and Stephanie Showalter; and two great-grandchildren, William Sharpe and Alexandria Showalter.

Anne was also preceded in death by her son, Steven John Wells; two brothers, Chuck Mercer and Dick Mercer; and two sisters, Marilyn Roman and Caroline Hertel.

Anne was a 1955 graduate of Van Wert High School. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She was also a member of American Legion Unit 178 Auxiliary. Anne loved going to auctions and looking for antiques, as well as playing cards with family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 5, at St. Mary of The Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Stan Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Visitation is from 1-6 p.m. Sunday, February 4, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert.

Preferred memorials: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
