VW independent/submitted information

The Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio is teaming with the Van Wert County Ministerial Association, which is working with Harvest Recovery Ministries and the Office of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, to bring “Epidemic of Hope” to the region.

Darryl Strawberry as a Hall of Fame baseball player for the New York Mets.

Darryl Strawberry, four-time World Series champion, eight-time All Star, New York Mets Hall of Famer and founder of Strawberry Ministries, will be coming to northwest Ohio to headline the “Epidemic of Hope” Weekend focusing on the tri-county area.

One of two tri-county main events will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center, when Strawberry will speak with area youths about the opiate epidemic currently facing them and their families.

The second main event will be at 7 p.m. that day when Darryl and his wife, Tracey, present “Finding Your Way” by sharing their powerful, cutting edge testimonies. Their stories will educate, enlighten, equip, and bring hope and awareness to the crushing effects of addiction on our communities.

Area attendees will hear inspiring stories of hope and opportunity while learning practical and proven methods to become part of the solution. The team will share experiences and best practices to educate attendees with ways to engage whole communities to bring hope back to those overwhelmed by drug abuse, addiction, and overdose.

It is the belief of these cooperating organizations and ministries that communities will only survive and prosper if they face this evil darkness together. The theme of this weekend of events is “We are Better Together, than Alone”.

The epidemic of addiction is the No. 1 issue facing the area economically, socially, and spiritually. The Epidemic of Hope Weekend is the beginning of a turning of the tide as area residents and agencies unite together to impact local communities. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Free tickets are available by contacting the Niswonger Box Office at 419.238.6722. Find out more about this event at NPACVW.ORG.
