{"id":100635,"date":"2018-04-06T05:33:27","date_gmt":"2018-04-06T10:33:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=100635"},"modified":"2018-04-06T13:42:47","modified_gmt":"2018-04-06T18:42:47","slug":"lancers-beat-lima-cc-improve-to-4-0","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2018\/04\/06\/lancers-beat-lima-cc-improve-to-4-0\/","title":{"rendered":"Lancers beat Lima CC, improve to 4-0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent sports editor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Gavin Carter struck out 14, walked none and scattered four hits over seven innings to help the Lancers defeat Lima Central Catholic 3-0 on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>In his last two outings, Carter has struck out a combined 26 batters, while allowing just five hits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGavin was just electric tonight pounding the strike zone,\u201d Lincolnview head coach Eric Fishpaw said. \u201cOur coaching staff tabbed 18 first pitch strikes of the batters he faced, which is an unreal percentage.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100633\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100633\" style=\"width: 350px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-100633\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/EthanKemler.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"282\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100633\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Ethan Kemler awaits a pitch from Lima CC&#8217;s Dru Smith.<\/strong> <em>Scott Truxell\/Van Wert independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s kind of his M.O., to get ahead on batters and work from there,\u201d Fishpaw continued. \u201cI\u2019m proud of his effort against a very solid Lima Central Catholic team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All three of Lincolnview\u2019s runs came with two outs.<\/p>\n<p>The Lancers scored a run in the bottom of first inning, when Carter singled on a line drive to center field, scoring Chayten Overholt, who opened the inning with a single and later stole a base.<\/p>\n<p>Lincolnview scored again in the fourth inning, when Overholt lined a single to left off Lima Central Catholic pitcher Dru Smith and drove in Thad Walker from second, then Overholt picked up his second RBI of the game when he singled in Creed Jessee in the bottom of the sixth. Overholt finished the game with four of Lincolnview\u2019s nine hits (4-4), while freshman Creed Jessee had two hits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a big strong kid, works hard in the cage and has worked his way into the lineup as our designated hitter,\u201d Fishpaw said of Jessee.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Walker and Jaden Youtsey accounted for Lincolnview\u2019s other hits.<\/p>\n<p>Smith pitched a complete game for the Thunderbirds, striking out six and walking two.<\/p>\n<p>The victory improved Lincolnview\u2019s record to 4-0 on the season, and Fishpaw noted he\u2019s enjoyed what he\u2019s seen so far.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like the team\u2019s comaraderie,\u201d Fishpaw stated. \u201cThere\u2019s no selfishness, they play hard, they all have goals that they want to achieve, and they know they can\u2019t do that individually.
