{"id":101839,"date":"2018-04-26T06:36:41","date_gmt":"2018-04-26T11:36:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=101839"},"modified":"2018-04-26T06:36:41","modified_gmt":"2018-04-26T11:36:41","slug":"lincolnview-board-tackles-busy-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2018\/04\/26\/lincolnview-board-tackles-busy-agenda\/","title":{"rendered":"Lincolnview board tackles busy agenda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Work continues on Lincolnview\u2019s new community center, and Superintendent Jeffrey Snyder told the Lincolnview Local Board of Education Wednesday night that construction is approximately 75 percent complete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now they\u2019re doing a lot of painting in the facility, putting lights up in the facility,\u201d Snyder said. \u201cSoon they\u2019ll be installing cameras, finishing acoustical ceiling grids, and installing the main entrance doors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Snyder added that the transformer for permanent power will be installed soon, and he said crews will soon floor the bus garage.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_101838\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-101838\" style=\"width: 350px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-101838\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/JeffSnyder4-26-18.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"367\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-101838\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Lincolnview superintendent Jeffrey Snyder speaks during Wedneday night&#8217;s Board of Education meeting.<\/strong><em> Scott Truxell\/Van Wert independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe projected completion week will be the last week of June, but that\u2019s a moving target,\u201d the superintendent said. \u201cI would say sometime in July we\u2019ll have a grand opening for everybody to see it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On a different topic, Snyder said a decision to field just one soccer team this fall \u2013 a co-ed team \u2013 will stand. Based on low numbers on the girls side, the change was announced last month, a decision that didn\u2019t sit well with some parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe still feel it\u2019s best to have the girls on the boys team this year, so we will not field a girls\u2019 varsity soccer team,\u201d Snyder said. \u201cWe want to have a varsity program a year from now, and we\u2019re looking at how to generate interest at the lower levels and how to sustain that interest long-term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sheriff Tom Riggenbaugh addressed the board about the addition of a school resource officer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe very strongly that a deputy in the school five days a week makes things more safe and secure, then not having a deputy here five days a week,\u201d Riggenbach said. \u201cIt certainly is not a 100 percent guarantee, but it does add another layer of safety and security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>High school principal Brad Mendenhall said the annual \u201cRivals United\u201d campaign between Lincolnview and Crestview has attracted the attention of the Ohio High School Athletic Association.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Leeth put together a really nice article that talks about that, and he submitted pictures to OHSAA, and their going to feature it in their magazine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The article is expected to appear in the fall issue.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Treasurer Troy Bowersock told the school board that the district\u2019s permanent improvement levy is up for renewal this fall, and Snyder added a renewal would mean no new taxes.
