If you want to be ready to record video at a moment\u2019s notice, start by tapping on the Settings icon, then scroll down to Record Video and tap on it.\u00a0This opens a page\u00a0of six different combinations of resolutions and frames per second at the top and a chart at the bottom that tells how the increase in resolution and fps increases the amount of storage needed to record a one-minute video.<\/p>\n

One question that will help you decide on resolution and fps is what screen will it most likely be played on?\u00a0\u00a0Another factor is whether you are thinking that maybe you will catch some action that you can sell to a TV news station or post on YouTube.\u00a0Another question is how much storage does the phone have available?<\/p>\n

Still another factor is whether the video will be recording action that is moving faster than a walk.\u00a0That\u2019s a lot to consider before selecting your fps and resolution.\u00a0\u00a0Once you have made your selection, tap on it and it will be there till you change it.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s interesting to note\u00a0that ESPN will start recording in their studio at 1080p and 60 fps.<\/p>\n

To start video recording, tap on the Camera icon and swipe right or left till the Gold VIDEO is located directly above the red Record Button.\u00a0To start recording, tap the Record Button. It will change its shape to a square until you tap it to stop recording.\u00a0It will then return to its original size and shape.\u00a0\u00a0The video will immediately appear in the lower, left corner and can be reviewed by tapping on it.\u00a0\u00a0It will be saved with your photos.<\/p>\n

Tips on the actual recording include:<\/p>\n

  • Unless the action is fast, imagine yourself as a robot and pan very slowly and steadily.<\/li>\n
  • Since we read from left to right, most panning will look more natural from left to right.<\/li>\n
  • Unless it\u2019s a tennis match, don\u2019t keep panning back and forth.<\/li>\n
  • Keep space above and below what you are recording.\u00a0Don\u2019t record just a headshot.<\/li>\n
  • If you must move and video, bend your knees and elbows and walk as if you were\u00a0carrying a drink in an open cup filled to the brim.<\/li>\n
  • If you have to rush to a better location to shoot, stop recording and resume when\u00a0you\u2019re there.<\/li>\n
  • Zoom in or out by using a thumb and finger on the screen and a finger to control the\u00a0lighting just as you would in photo mode.\u00a0Limit how often you zoom in and out.<\/li>\n
  • Position yourself so the subject faces the strongest lighting.<\/li>\n
  • Don\u2019t shoot everything from a standing position.\u00a0\u00a0Video at the level of the subject.<\/li>\n
