{"id":102203,"date":"2018-05-04T08:25:22","date_gmt":"2018-05-04T13:25:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=102203"},"modified":"2018-05-04T08:25:22","modified_gmt":"2018-05-04T13:25:22","slug":"patrol-identifies-ovi-checkpoint-location","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2018\/05\/04\/patrol-identifies-ovi-checkpoint-location\/","title":{"rendered":"Patrol identifies OVI checkpoint location"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>PAULDING &#8212; The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Paulding Police Department, announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on State Route 111, between Grant and Dewitt streets.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2340\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/osplogo.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"132\" \/>The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. The checkpoint will include nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat alcohol- and drug related injury and fatal crashes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecent data has shown there have been 16 OVI related crashes, as well as 22 OVI arrests, made within a five-mile radius of the checkpoint location,\u201d said Lieutenant Jonathon Gray, commander of the Van Wert Post. \u201cThe purpose of the checkpoint, as well as the advance notice media releases, is to educate the public of the dangers of impaired driving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to drive home a simple point: Don\u2019t endanger the lives of our citizens with a reckless and irresponsible decision to drive while impaired,\u201d Lt. Gray added.<\/p>\n<p>Ohioans who plan to consume alcohol need to designate a sober driver or make travel arrangements before they drink.
