Over the past year the 2017-18 campaign committee has worked hard to involve county businesses and residents in various events and campaigns, raising funds for the 27 United Way supported agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The recent \u201cFiesta Fun Friday\u201d reverse raffle event, which was held at Willow Bend Country Club on May 4, was a great success and was able to bring in nearly $15,000 to help reach the goal. The $1,000 grand prize winner, Thad Lichtensteiger, graciously donated $500 back to the United Way.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-43104\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/United-Way-logo-9-2013.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"90\" \/>\u201cThe ability to reach the goal set has been a great accomplishment,\u201d said United Way Executive Director Vicki Smith. \u201cWe can say this is the largest campaign goal we have met in the past 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been a privilege to work with an amazing board, caring community, and great individuals that give unconditionally,\u201d Smith added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe campaign focus this year was increased involvement from the community, stressing that small contributions from a larger number of people can have a tremendous impact,\u201d said United Way 2017-18 Campaign Chair Pat Crummey. \u201cWe wanted to increase community support of the United Way\u2019s mission and develop a sense of being a \u201ccommunity hero\u201d and the response was overwhelming. Main St. in Van Wert for those who would like to stop in.
