{"id":105033,"date":"2018-07-24T05:45:26","date_gmt":"2018-07-24T10:45:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=105033"},"modified":"2018-07-24T05:46:37","modified_gmt":"2018-07-24T10:46:37","slug":"estes-attends-final-crestview-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2018\/07\/24\/estes-attends-final-crestview-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Estes attends final Crestview meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>CONVOY &#8212; Monday night\u2019s meeting of the Crestview Local Schools Board of Education was the final one for Superintendent Mike Estes.<\/p>\n<p>After spending 10 years leading the district, Estes is leaving at the end of the month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just a great district,\u201d Estes said before the meeting. \u201cThe staff is outstanding, I love the kids and the community has been very supportive over the years. It\u2019s made the job a real pleasure, one that\u2019s been easy to come to every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_105032\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-105032\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-105032\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/MollenkopfEstes7-24-18-e1532427281404.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"256\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-105032\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Kathy Mollenkopf will take over for Mike Estes August 1.<\/strong> <em>Scott Truxell\/Van Wert independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Longtime Crestview Elementary Principal Kathy Mollenkopf will take over the superintendent\u2019s role August 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think what excites me the most is having the opportunity to serve at a different level, a little bit larger platform, to help make choices that are in the best interest of our kids, as well as our teachers and the other staff members who work here,\u201d Mollenkopf said. \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to the opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Board members heard from neighboring property owners Ellen and Gary Schaadt, who installed a fence around their back yard for privacy reasons. The two expressed concern about students cutting through their property.<\/p>\n<p>In other business, the board approved a resolution to place a renewal of the school system\u2019s income tax levy on the November ballot, and board members agreed to purchase the services of a School Resource Officer from the Van Wert County Sheriff\u2019s Department for the entire 2018-2019 school year.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The board also approved lunch prices, athletic ticket prices, student workbook fees and Latchkey fees for the upcoming school year, along with a motion to approve a lease agreement with Schlemmer Farms for all of 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Board members approved a request for additional hours\/days for custodians, bus drivers, food service workers, secretaries, paraprofessionals and other certified personnel on an as-needed basis for the 2018-2019 school year.<\/p>\n<p>The board also accepted the resignation of Anne Myers as an Intervention Specialist and made several hires, including Nicholas Leeth as an Intervention Specialist, Robin Schumm as an Elementary Paraprofessional, Mike Hill as a bus driver, and Cynthia Schaffner as a food service employee. The board also approved supplemental contracts for Emily Bauer (eighth grade girls\u2019 basketball coach) and Bill McCoy (seventh grade girls\u2019 basketball coach).
