The show also featured \u201cThe Banana Express\u201d, a train display with plenty of bananas for the kids.<\/p>\n<p>While looking over the late Sunday morning crowd, show spokesman Chuck White deemed the yearly event a big success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAttendance is better than expected,\u201d White stated. \u201cSaturday was our best attendance ever, and we call Sunday the day for our \u2018stroller\u2019 crowd, or the church crowd.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s phenomenal that we have a show this size in a town the size of Van Wert, and in the summertime,\u201d White added. \u201cYou don\u2019t do model railroad shows during the summer, but here we are in the middle of summer with a pretty successful train show.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>White also said he received mostly positive feedback from people at the show as well as vendors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the public in general likes what they see, but the vendors \u2013 it depends on who you talk to,\u201d White said. \u201cSome have said they\u2019re doing great and they\u2019ll be back next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->\u201cThat\u2019s the key &#8212; if they do decent, they\u2019ll come back, and while I do get some complaints, they keep coming back,\u201d White added.<\/p>\n<p>One vendor, who wished to remain anonymous, was pleased with the turnout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people have looked at my table, and I\u2019ve been able to sell a good number of my items,\u201d the man said. \u201cI\u2019ll definitely be back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Preparations for next year\u2019s show are already underway, and organizers are planning even more enhancements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s probably as big as we\u2019re going to be, and we hope to have a fourth building in use,\u201d White said. \u201cWe\u2019re also talking about having a Lego layout as one of the displays next year,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He noted something else big is planned for 2019, with more details coming once plans are finalized with another organization.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SCOTT TRUXELL\/independent writer Hundreds of model train enthusiasts of all ages flocked to the Van Wert County Fairgrounds over the weekend for the annual Heritage Railroad Weekend Model Railroad Show and Swap.
