{"id":10569,"date":"2011-07-13T02:02:17","date_gmt":"2011-07-13T07:02:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=10569"},"modified":"2011-07-13T02:02:17","modified_gmt":"2011-07-13T07:02:17","slug":"ymca-to-host-presentation-on-snakes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2011\/07\/13\/ymca-to-host-presentation-on-snakes\/","title":{"rendered":"YMCA to host presentation on snakes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Van Wert independent\/<\/strong><em>YMCA information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Van Wert YMCA Camp Clay Nature Committee will be hosting \u201cVenomous Snakes of Ohio\u201d presentation on Sunday, July 17, from 2-3:30 p.m.\u00a0 This presentation is free of charge and open to the public and will be held in the Camp Clay Nature Center off of Liberty Union Road.\u00a0 Guest speaker Doug Wynn will be the presenter.<\/p>\n<p>Wynn is a retired high school ecology teacher. As a result of his fourth grade teacher, he has a special interest in snakes and has been studying them since his undergraduate years. He is especially interested in Ohio\u2019s endangered snakes and has received over 100 grants and contracts.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10570\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10570\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10570 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Timber-rattlesnake-7-2011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"205\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10570\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Timber rattlesnake<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Ohio Division of Parks presented Wynn with its Naturalist Award in 1994, the same year he and fellow teachers developed a research class that focused on implementing species survival plans for endangered Ohio snakes.<\/p>\n<p>The students in that program worked with many of Wynn\u2019s projects and have made significant contributions to our knowledge of Ohio reptiles.
