VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n

After a great band camp and several August rehearsals, the students and staff of the Van Wert High School \u201cCougar Pride\u201d Marching Band are ready for the season to begin this Friday at home against Bryan.<\/p>\n

The high school band traveled to Oglebay Park near Wheeling, West Virginia, for band camp in late July and has spent time at VWHS since then in preparation for the season.<\/p>\n

\"\"Following a wonderfully successful 2017-18 school year that included a Superior rating for the VWHS Symphonic Band at state contest, the band is looking forward to an eventful 2018-19 year. This year\u2019s band, which includes 82 students, is the largest since 2006.<\/p>\n

The marching band has a great series of shows to present the Cougar crowd. This year\u2019s season of shows is entitled \u201cGame On!\u201d and explores music inspired by sports.<\/p>\n

Show 1 is called \u201cGridiron Glory\u201d and is a salute to music inspired by football. The show features music from \u201cThe NFL on CBS\u201d, \u201cTheme from Rudy\u201d, \u201cWe Will Rock You\u201d, \u201cAll I Do is Win\u201d, and more.<\/p>\n

Show 2 is called \u201cAnthem\u201d and highlights popular music from the Rocky movies, including \u201cEye of the Tiger\u201d and \u201cGonna Fly Now\u201d. This show will also feature Van Wert eighth-graders.<\/p>\n

Show 3 is called \u201cCapture the Flag\u201d and features band members actually playing a game of \u201ccapture the flag\u201d on the field. The soundtrack to the game will be provided using music from Symphony No. 8 by Anton Bruckner, \u201cEverybody Wants to Rule the World\u201d by Lorde, \u201cRun, Boy, Run\u201d by Woodkid, and \u201cSupremecy\u201d by Muse.<\/p>\n

The season will conclude with the traditional Senior Night show that thanks graduating band members for their hard work over the years.<\/p>\n

The high school band is off to the start of another wonderful year, thanks to hard-working students, wonderfully supportive parents, and a glorious history of excellence.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that you find time to enjoy the performances of these hard-working musicians,\u201d said Director Bob Sloan.<\/p>\n
