{"id":10703,"date":"2011-07-15T02:27:24","date_gmt":"2011-07-15T07:27:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=10703"},"modified":"2011-07-15T02:31:58","modified_gmt":"2011-07-15T07:31:58","slug":"top-deputies-seek-jfs-directors-position","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2011\/07\/15\/top-deputies-seek-jfs-directors-position\/","title":{"rendered":"Top deputies seek JFS director&#8217;s position"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>DAVE MOSIER\/<\/strong><em>independent editor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Three top officials of the Van Wert County Job and Family Services Department are seeking to fill the director\u2019s position being vacated by the retiring Jim Beard.<\/p>\n<p>The department\u2019s top financial person, Business Administrator Marsha Drake; Deputy Director Mary Beth Holtsberry, who heads the department\u2019s employment services section; and Deputy Director Sandra Honigford, who is over the Children\u2019s Services section, all submitted letters of interest in the director\u2019s position and were interviewed Thursday by the Van Wert County Board of Commissioners.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10704\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10704\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10704  \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Commissioners-mtg-7-14-11-Wendel.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"326\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10704\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Van Wert County Engineer Kyle Wendel provides information on a new dump truck he is purchasing for his department. (Dave Mosier\/Van Wert independent)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As reported earlier in <em>The Van Wert independent<\/em>, Beard, who was given a 20-month retire-rehire agreement by the county commissioners in March that was to run through December 2012, tendered his resignation, effective July 28, citing health concerns as the reason.<\/p>\n<p>After receiving Beard\u2019s resignation, the commissioners sought letters of interest in the position from current Department of Job and Family Services employees. The deadline for submitting the letters was this past Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Board of Commissioners Chair Gary Adams said Thursday that a decision is planned for sometime in the next week to 10 days, but also brought up the possibility of going outside the department to seek a new director.<\/p>\n<p>Also on Thursday, County Engineer Kyle Wendel met with the commissioners to discuss the purchase of a new International dump truck.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe try to get into a dump truck every year,\u201d Wendel said, adding that his department waited a little longer this time, making it about 1\u00bd years since the last dump truck was purchased.<\/p>\n<p>The county is purchasing the truck through the state\u2019s cooperative purchasing program, Wendel said, with Buckeye Truck in Lima, an International dealer, providing the cab and chassis at a cost of $89,781. Adding hydraulics and a plow body will increase the cost by about $50,000, the county engineer said, bringing the total purchase price to approximately $140,000.<\/p>\n<p>The county will take delivery of the truck in approximately six months, Wendel said, noting that the county will bid out the peripherals that go on the truck, which will then be installed by Kalida Truck.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAVE MOSIER\/independent editor Three top officials of the Van Wert County Job and Family Services Department are seeking to fill the director\u2019s position being vacated by the retiring Jim Beard.
