{"id":112770,"date":"2019-02-01T06:03:31","date_gmt":"2019-02-01T11:03:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=112770"},"modified":"2019-02-01T06:03:37","modified_gmt":"2019-02-01T11:03:37","slug":"vw-tops-elida-for-second-straight-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2019\/02\/01\/vw-tops-elida-for-second-straight-win\/","title":{"rendered":"VW tops Elida for second straight win"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Van Wert independent sports<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Van Wert held Elida to just two second quarter points and that proved to be the difference in a 42-36 Western Buckeye League victory on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"210\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Rob-Adams-2018-2019.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-109789\"\/><figcaption><strong>Rob Adams<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lady Cougars led 8-7 after the first period, then Amira Freeman scored Elida\u2019s only basket of the second quarter, while Abby Jackson hit a pair of buckets, Alexis Metz drilled a triple and Jerica Huebner and Allison Schaufelberger each had a basket to account for Van Wert\u2019s 11 points in the quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDefense won this game for us,\u201d Van Wert head coach Rob Adams said. \u201cWe have nine girls we rotate pretty frequently and they all played a part in this outcome. We are a selfless bunch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sierra Shaffer scored five of Van Wert\u2019s nine third quarter points and the Lady Cougars led 28-19 at the end of the period. Shaffer and Jackson each scored four more in the fourth quarter and both finished with 11 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe played our tails off,\u201d Adams said. \u201cI\u2019m very proud of our effort and toughness.
